Credit card bosses under fire

Credit card companies have come under fire from politicians and regulators.

It emerged yesterday that the Office of Fair Trading believes that the calculations used by some companies to set penalty charges are "of questionable validity".

And taking evidence form major financial companies yesterday, the Treasury select committee was also critical of the profits made from penalty charges.

"People might think you have something to hide," warned chairman John McFall.
