Civil service unions balloted over job cuts plan
The first national civil service strike for decades is in prospect after the PCS union announced a ballot of its members.
The union confirmed yesterday that it is to ballot its members on plans for a 300,000 strong walkout.
The union is resisting moves to reduce civil service jobs following the Gershon review of Whitehall structures.
The strike could undermine areas such as tax collection and benefit payments.
