Britain's official statistician, Len Cook, is to appear before MPs on the Treasury select committee next month to explain errors in key government data.

Cook, head of the Office for National Statistics, has been under pressure in the past year over significant revisions his figures.

Meanwhile the FT reports that the Treasury is to cut the budget of the Statistics Commission watchdog by 10 per cent.
