Britain's financial services companies have "limped from crisis to crisis", according to a report into the UK's savings industry issued today by a group of MPs.

The Treasury committee's report into restoring confidence in long-term savings found problems at the heart of the savings sector.

John McFall, the chairman, said: "The long-term savings industry is too important to be left on its own to sort out its own problems."
