BBC told to justify web services

Culture secretary Tessa Jowell has told the BBC to redefine the remit of its online services.

Following the publication of an independent review, the corporation said it was closing five sections on its website.

Meanwhile, the FT reports that BBC executives are also planning to cut £100 million from the broadcaster's running costs.
