Peers insist on preserving job title
The House of Lords last night voted to keep the ancient title of lord chancellor, even though it agreed with the government that many of the post's functions should be scrapped.
Lord Falconer, who hopes to be the last lord chancellor, told peers not to "cling to the historical aspect of the job".
But Conservatives and crossbenchers argued that scrapping the title would undermine the constitution and the rule of law.
