Aslef brawler quits
Martin Samways, the president of Aslef, has resigned following his role in a fight at a union barbecue.
Samways, a left-winger who has been a member of Aslef for 40 years, quit after a report found his behaviour "wholly unacceptable".
He said: "I lapsed along with others and made a terrible error of judgment... I am big enough to admit my mistakes and to try and rectify that mistake by acknowledging that I should resign my position forthwith."
