Queen's costs rise
Alan Reid, keeper of the privy purse, has revealed that running the monarchy in the year to March 2004 cost the taxpayer £36.8 million, or 61 pence a head, an increase of 1.7 per cent on the previous year.
The figures also revealed that the Royal household has increased expenditure on legal costs - thought to be a result of attempts to impose tighter staff confidentiality clauses.
