Blair looking for Prodi successor

The Guardian reports that Tony Blair is still looking for a candidate to support as a replacement for Romano Prodi as president of the European Commission.

The decision will be made at an EU summit in Brussels in two weeks' time.

Last week the current frontrunner, Belgian prime minister Guy Verhofstadt, made a personal appeal to Blair for support.

However, Downing Street sources report that he remains unconvinced.
