Gordon Brown will cut 80,000 public sector jobs as part of his current spending review, the FT reports.

The paper says that both the chancellor and prime minister are keen to see the total number of central government jobs being cut reach the figure of "up to 80,000" identified by Sir Peter Gershon in his efficiency report.
