Environmentalists hail port decision

Environmental groups have welcomed a government decision not to grant permission to Associated British Ports to build a £600 million facility at Dibden Bay near Southampton.

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds had led protests against the plans, arguing that it would have resulted in the loss of mudflat and grassland areas home to 50,000 birds including important populations of five species.
