Committee calls for action against elder abuse
The Commons health select committee has called on the government to take action against abuse of elderly people by relatives and carers.
As many as 500,000 elderly people are thought to have been the victims of physical, sexual, verbal or other abuse.
Liberal Democrat health spokesman Paul Burstow said the issue of abuse of the elderly was still a taboo subject and it "was time ministers took this issue seriously".
