In a ground-breaking move, 1,650 hectares of land is to be transferred from the Department of Health to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for the building of 15,000 new homes.

Of those, 5,000 will be available to key public sector workers.

Health secretary John Reid described the agreement as a "win, win, win" situation for the NHS.
