Growing violence between coalition forces and Iraq's majority Shia community prompt widespread fears in today's papers that Iraq is on the brink of anarchy.

In Baghdad's Sadr City suburb, helicopters and tanks were used in an effort to quell the violence, which has seen eight US soldiers and up to 50 Iraqis killed since fighting began on Sunday.

The coalition also announced it would arrest a radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, whose supporters have been involved in the latest clashes.

Despite fears that Iraq is on the brink of civil war, President George W Bush pledged his administration would "stay the course" in the country.
