BBC boss named tomorrow
The new chairman of the BBC is expected to be named tomorrow by Downing Street.
Culture secretary Tessa Jowell is understood to have made her recommendation to Number 10.
The Guardian says that Peter Mandelson has emerged as a possible candidate to fill the post.
Former Conservative chief whip Lord Ryder also announced yesterday that he is standing down from the BBC board of governors when his period as acting chairman comes to an end.
