The Guardian reports that Liberal Democrats are set to take a more sceptical line on the issue of Europe, in the run-up to June's parliamentary elections.

Treasury spokesman Vince Cable will call for the scrapping of the common agricultural policy and repatriation of environmental policy.

"The worrying thing about Europe is that it is impossible to think of a single example of a competence taken by Europe, and made subject to qualified majority voting, that has been handed back to a nation state," he said yesterday.
