The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy has given its backing to Liberal Democrat plans for a local income income tax.

The experts said the government, which is reviewing the council tax, should consider the idea which would be fairer than the property based system.

Meanwhile today's Telegraph reports that additional policing costs are resulting in above inflation increases in council taxes.
