IDS 'in the clear'

Former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith is set to be cleared of wrong-doing over the Betsygate affair, it is reported today.

In a report which has been delivered to MPs, Sir Philip Mawer is said to have acquitted Duncan Smith over the allegation that he paid his wife for work she did not do.

However the report is likely to say that IDS broke the rules when he employed two political staff using his Commons allowance.

The Telegraph reports that the rules relating to the employment of MPs’ spouses are to be reviewed in light of the Duncan Smith affair.
