Ministers order immigration inquiry
The government has begun an investigation into a whistleblower’s claims that immigration rules were secretly relaxed to make it easier for thousands of East Europeans to enter Britain.
The claims, disclosed in the Sunday Times, prompted a Home Office spokeswoman to say that ministers "have not ordered any special exercise to process applications from EU accession member nationals more speedily in advance of May 1".
She said an investigation had been ordered.
