PM scraps Lords reform plans
Tony Blair has decided to abandon plans to reform the House of Lords during this parliament.
Following a meeting of his Cabinet yesterday, the prime minister indicated he will pull the Lords reform bill but delayed a final decision to a sub-committee meeting next week.
Lord Falconer, the lord chancellor, has warned that the legislation has no chance of being agreed by peers and could disrupt the rest of the government's legislative programme in the Lords.
