MPs have been told that the UK car components industry is under threat because of the lack of domestic vehicle manufacturers.

Christopher Macgowan, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, told the Commons trade and industry select committee yesterday that countries with bigger domestic car industries were more likely to support component makers.
