Tories host first 'gay summit'

The Conservative Party held its first "gay summit" in Westminster yesterday.

The conference, entitled "Supporting Young Lesbians, Gay Men and Bisexuals - the Way Ahead", was addressed by the party's mayoral candidate, Steve Norris.

Stonewall chief executive Ben Summerskill welcomed the summit but called it a "ceasefire".

"We celebrate the cessation of hostilities in any conflict," he said. "Jaw jaw is better than war war."

And the Telegraph reports that only five Tory MPs turned up to the event while former shadow home secretary Ann Widdecombe described it as "misguided".
