Downing Street denies royal insult

Number 10 yesterday moved to quell criticism that the home secretary had pressed ahead with plans to rename the Crown Prosecution Service without informing the Queen.

A spokesman said the proposal to create a "Public Prosecution Service" is still being discussed and was not designed to "demean the crown".
