Builders demand pay increase
Ucatt, the union representing local authority building workers, has submitted a claim for a seven per cent increase for its members, as well as a 35-hour working week.
"There is a long-term failure by local government to recognise the skills held and value given by craft workers that has seen our members' earnings lag behind local government comparators," said general secretary George Brumwell.
