Analysis in the FT of Tony Blair's Berlin meeting with France and Germany's leaders concludes it was not an attempt to dictate to the rest of Europe.

The paper concludes the visit was a bid to  build a partnership based on collaboration with the two countries rather than relying on new laws.

It also claims Blair's preferred candidate for the next European Commission president is the Portuguese commissioner Antonio Vittorino.
