Hewitt: EU red tape is slowing

The rate of new regulation from the European Union is starting to slow, the trade secretary has insisted.

Speaking to the FT, Patricia Hewitt said she had started listening to the concerns of businesses about red tape.

"We've got to do more at a European level [about government regulation]," she said.

"There's got to be more common sense in this debate and a greater willingness to analyse costs and benefits."
