Government set to back GM
The government will next month approve the commercial growing of GM crops in Britain, according to a report in today's Independent.
However, ministers are set to impose strict conditions and ban commercial GM sugar beet and oilseed rape after trials showed that they could be more damaging to the environment than conventional crops.
