The Independent reports that over 300 wannabe Tory MPs have applied for the super-safe Kensington and Chelsea constituency to be vacated by Michael Portillo at the next election.

Those thought to have thrown their hats into the ring include former foreign secretary Malcolm Rifkind, Nikki Page, Nick Hurd, Phillip Oppenheim and Jacob Rees-Mogg.
