Radical reforms to the Good Friday agreement may be the only way forward for the Northern Ireland peace process, the Irish prime minister has warned.

"No society operates without its elected administration properly functioning in all the day-to-day issues," Bertie Ahern told the BBC Breakfast With Frost programme.

"In Northern Ireland the will of the people is that we should have an assembly and we should have an executive, and that they should work on the issues.

"Now the review, I'm sure, won't fundamentally change that - it might change the workings of the operation, its procedures, but it's not going to change fundamentally the basis of that."
