Ken Livingstone will today seek the backing of Labour's 50,000 London members to become the party's official candidate for mayor of London.

It comes just one week after the National Executive Committee agreed to re-admit him to the Labour Party, cutting short his five-year suspension for standing against the official candidate at the 2000 mayoral elections.
