Sir Malcolm Rifkind and the son of his predecessor as foreign secretary are two of the favourites to succeed Michael Portillo as Conservative candidate for Kensington and Chelsea.

Nick Hurd and Rifkind will also be joined by Lady Meyer, whose husband Sir Christopher is chairman of the Press Complaints Commission.
