BAE contract remains despite cuts

Defence contractors BAE Systems has expressed its confidence that a contract for the Navy's largest warship programme will go unharmed by spending cuts.

An order for 12 Type 45 destroyers was expected to be reduced to eight as the Ministry of Defence struggled to balance its budgets.

However speaking yesterday, managing director of naval ships Vic Emery argued that BAE was still planning to build 10 vessels.
