Former transport secretary Stephen Byers was targeted in a High Court compensation claim yesterday.

Railtrack shareholders said the then-Cabinet minister acted with the "specific intention of injuring investors" when he moved to put the company into administration in 2001.

The Times reports that the suit against the Department for Transport could also call on the prime minister to give evidence.
