The Independent reports today that the word "New" has finally been dropped from Labour Party membership cards.

Senior Labour sources are said to believe the New Labour tag has become tarnished and should now be exiled to political history.

Meanwhile the New Labour movement has been dealt a fresh blow after it emerged that left-wingers have secured the majority of seats on the Amicus union's national executive.
