Customers and Excise has improved efforts to tackle tobacco and alcohol smuggling.

A report by the National Audit Office (NAO) and the department's own annual report found a big improvement in measures to cut oil, VAT, tobacco and alcohol duty scams.

But the NAO warned alcohol fraud was still costing £650 million a year.
