Taxpayer facing new bill for Network Rail
The cost to the taxpayer of keeping Network Rail's debts off the public accounts could rise to as much as £70 million a year.
The cost relates to the extra charges incurred by the not-for-profit company for using loans guaranteed by the government-backed Strategic Rail Authority to finance its activities.
