Confusion over West Coast rail upgrade

Britain's rail industry is at odds over the £9.9 billion upgrade of the West Coast mainline, reports the FT.

Under pressure from rail regulator Tom Winsor to cut costs, Network Rail has put forward plans to cut £750 million from the project.

But the Strategic Rail Authority is insisting that the project must be completed to the original specification it published in June.
