The Reverend Ian Paisley has paraded his 30-strong assembly team despite deadlock in the Ulster peace process.

The hardliner yesterday held talks with Northern Ireland secretary Paul Murphy where he pressed the government for "constructive change".

Following his meeting, the DUP leader said he hoped to hold talks with the prime minister soon.

Paisley went on to say his party needed a context that would allow unionists to address "all the flaws of the old agreement".

He added: "The people we represent have voted for constructive change. It is important for us to ensure that the agenda for negotiation is sufficiently broad to provide the necessary scope to deal with all the matters we are mandated to pursue."

David Trimble, the leader of the Ulster Unionists, said the DUP could not allow a stalemate to paralyse politics in the province.

He said: "If you're in the driving seat you have an obligation to bring forward proposals and possible solutions. The fact that Dr Paisley is saying he's not going to, demonstrates the emptiness of the campaign he fought."

Meanwhile Irish radio has banned a radio commercial featuring Gerry Adams because it breaches guidelines covering political advertising.
