New shadow health and education secretary Tim Yeo has admitted the Conservatives must reassure the public about the future of the NHS.

He tells the FT that the Tories must avoid being branded the party of the middle classes because of their health and schools policies.

"We would always want to be seen as the party acting in the interests of the most vulnerable people," he says.

"We must be on our guard to make sure we are not just seen as the people who represent middle-class interests."
