Network Rail, the not-for-profit company set up by the government to replace Railtrack, is to overhaul its internal organisation.

Staff were told yesterday that Railtrack's regional structure is to be replaced by a system dividing workers according to their roles.

Train operators have been heavily critical of the regional structure, claiming it hampers strategic decision making.
