Street crime surged during Bush visit
Street robberies in London increased during the three days of George Bush's state visit last week when thousands of officers were taken from ordinary duties to protect the president.
Muggings and bag snatches rose by about 20 per cent from their usual level while the president was in the Capital but then fell back to previous levels when he left London.
