Meacher seeks halt to airport expansion
Writing in the FT today, Michael Meacher calls for "wholly new thinking" on plans to expand the UK's airport capacity.
"Britain should ambitiously examine the potential to substitute long-distance electric rail for internal UK air travel," the former environment minister writes.
"Above all, if existing subsidies where phased out over time, the need for new airports or runways would be much reduced."
