NAO slams £2bn tax credit error
In a damning report the National Audit Office finds that the Inland Revenue has paid out more than £2 billion in mistaken tax credit payments.
Sir John Bourn, the auditor general, said the payouts were "cause for serious concern".
Edward Leigh, chairman of the public accounts committee, called the overpayments "a terrible waste of money".
