Hewitt warns city investors

Patricia Hewitt will today call on the UK's major shareholders to play a more active and transparent role in the companies they invest in.

The trade and industry secretary wants to make policy on institutional investors a part of Labour's manifesto for a third term.

In a keynote speech in London today, she will say: "Our economy needs institutional investors, pension fund managers and trustees...to deliver their side of the corporate bargain."
