The president of the European parliament will today warn that the UK is running the risk of being marginalised in the EU.

Pat Cox will sat that attacks on the EU by senior figures including the chancellor are alienating our European partners.

"Anyone who regards themselves as pro-European should refrain from encouraging fantasies and misconceptions about Europe for short-term tactical or personal reasons," he will tell the CBI's annual conference.
