Howard signals u-turn on gay rights
The Conservatives are set to change their official stance on gay rights.
Leader Michael Howard is set to allow a free vote on legislation giving same-sex couples similar legal rights to married partnerships.
The changes come a year after Iain Duncan Smith triggered a backbench revolt by demanding MPs vote against gay couples being allowed to adopt children.
The vote will come on legislation that is set to be announced in Wednesday's Queen's Speech.
