David Blunkett has said there is "no obvious limit" to the number of immigrants who could settle in the United Kingdom.

Speaking on Newsnight, the home secretary described Britain as a "crowded, vigorous island".

"I see a balance in terms of the different forms of entry, migration and residency in this country so that we can get it right," he said.
