Charles Moore is stepping down as editor of the Telegraph.

He is doing so to write an authorised biography Margaret Thatcher.

His replacement will be Martin Newland, 41, the former deputy editor of the National Post in Canada.

The Mail claims Henley MP Boris Johnson was offered the post in July but turned it down because he was reluctant to stand down from Westminster in case the seat was lost by the Conservatives.
