Government give go-ahead to ITV deal
Industry ministers yesterday approved a merger deal between television companies Granada and Carlton that will clear the way for a single ITV.
The government hopes the deal will allow ITV to compete with the BBC and BSkyB.
But the announcement, which concerned advertisers, came alongside the promise of a review of the way television companies sell commercial slots.
