Brown targets airport tax
The government is set to anger airlines and passengers by doubling airport tax.
Both the Department for Transport and the Treasury want to raise air passenger duty from £5 to £10 on economy tickets within Britain and from the UK to Europe. The rate would increase from £20 to as much as £40 for other destinations.
The proposal was welcomed by environmental campaigners.
